Founded in 1988, Colonial began in a modest plaza in Harker Heights, Texas. Over the years, three generations of the Autry family have leveraged property management as a means to positively impact the communities we serve.
In 2024, the Autry family recognized a pressing need for change in the industry, as evidenced by the fact that over 50% of American landlords opt to self-manage their properties. This trend, they believe, stems from a simple yet critical issue: the average property manager prioritizes profiteering, self-interest, and poor stewardship, creating an environment where greed has become commonplace. In response, the Autry family made the bold decision to transform Colonial into America’s first property management company to adopt a Non-Profit model. If our clients owned the company, they would expect maximum efficiency and fair, non-profit pricing—anything less would be a mere pretense of acting in their "best" interest. With this radical shift, Colonial ensures that homeowners are only charged for the cost of our operations.
